As much care and cleansing you do, sometimes a breakout can still occur due to several reasons – going through too much stress, or having hormone imbalance are just a couple of reasons. So, a customer recently asked us for suggestions or advice on how to get rid of a pimple quickly.

One suggestion is to apply a small amount of toothpaste on the breakout as this can dry out the pimple pretty quickly. However, try to avoid using toothpaste that has whitening formula as this can be too irritating to the skin.

Step 1: First and foremost, you must start with a clean slate. Start this process with a freshly cleansed skin to see the best results.

Step 2: Gently pat your skin dry as wiping or rubbing can further irritate the skin.

Step 3: Apply a small amount of toothpaste on the pimple and leave to dry. You can leave the toothpaste on for a few minutes to as long as overnight – it all depends on your skin sensitivity.

Step 4: Wash off toothpaste with a gentle cleanser and warm water. Try not to use any harsh scrubs as this can irritate the skin.

Step 5: Finally, dry off by patting your skin with a towel. Again, don’t rub or wipe off…Be gentle to yourself!

In general, the best way to take care of your skin, whether it’s your daily routine or to take care of conditions such as acne, being gentle is the way to go. Try not to use spot treatments frequently as this can irritate the skin as well and you’ll just end up with redness, irritated skin, and can possibly worsen your existing blemishes.

Here are several food items that help promote healthy skin:

- Yellow and orange fruits and veggies including carrots, apricots, etc.
- Leafy green veggies including spinach, broccoli, etc.
- Tomatoes
- Blueberries
- Fatty fish rich in Omega 3 such as salmon and mackarel
- Nuts

Also, several food items such as processed food, refined carbohydrates, and unhealthy fats have shown to increase skin aging. So try to avoid or reduce consumption of these food items.

Let’s be honest here, breaking out with acne can feel like the end of the world! Having a blemish on your face, staring back at you as you look in the mirror can drastically affect your mood. We’ve all been there. No worries, here are several tips to help prevent acne, or at least minimize your breakout disaster:

1. Keep your face fresh and clean – it’s important to cleanse your face twice daily to remove any impurities, excess oil, and dead skin cells away. Use a mild facial cleanser such as our very own Illuminosity face wash. Rinse with cool or warm water, and avoid using hot water as this can dehydrate your skin and even cause damage.

2. Moisturize – If you use anti-acne products, these can actually dry out your skin. Therefore, make sure to use a moisturizer to help keep your skin hydrated, minimize dryness, and avoid cracking and peeling. Try our Awaken anti-aging cream, which doubles as a moisturizer. 3. Avoid excessive makeup – Try using oil-free cosmetics that does not contain any dyes or synthetic chemicals. Also avoid wearing foundation, powder, or blush during a breakout. 4. Keep your hair off your face – If you use hair products, try to keep your hair off your face as it can transfer oil, dirt, and hair products on to your skin, which can clog your pores and cause acne. Avoid using any gels, hairspray, and oils on your hair; but if you must, do keep it at a minimum. Why not try sticking to the basics with just a gentle shampoo and conditioner?

5. Avoid touching your face – Try not to touch your face or lay your cheek on your hands.  Your hands have been EVERYWHERE, which means you can transfer oil, dirt, and even grimy germs to your beautiful face. In addition, never ever pick or pop your pimples as not only can this cause further irritation, but can also cause infection and scarring.

6. Eat healthy – Studies show that eating foods high in vitamin A and beta-carotene can help improve your skin health. Make sure to add some of these yummy treats in your diet: carrots, sweet potato, spinach, cantaloupe, apricots, etc.

7. Keep the heart pumping - working out on a regular basis is not only good for your body and mind, but for your skin health as well. Keeping the heart pumping and the blood flowing help reduce anxiety and stress. Sweating also helps excrete toxins out of your body and cleans your pores…but only if you shower right after. Step 1 - Deep cleanse your facial skin by applying a generous layer of Miracle Mask on freshly moistened skin. If desired, you can dilute the mud with a little bit of water. You may feel a tingling sensation due to the deep cleansing, but this should subside within a few minutes. Leave the mask on for 10-15 minutes to let it absorb dirt and oil in your pores.

Step 2 - Rinse off the mud mask and further cleanse and exfoliate your face with our gentle scrubbing face wash – Illuminosity. Take a dime-size amount and apply and massage into skin for about 30 seconds. Wash off with cool or warm water. Avoid using hot water as this can dehydrate your skin. Pat your skin dry rather than wiping. This will help your skin absorb the moisture and stay hydrated.

Step 3 - After washing your face and patting it dry, generously spray some Rose Blush toner directly onto your skin. For oily skin, we recommend we recommend moving to step 4 immediately while your skin is still damp. For dry skin, we recomen you let the toner air dry prior to moving to step 4.

Step 4  - After cleansing, exfoliating, and toning your face, take a dime-size amount of Awaken anti-aging cream and massage onto your face in a circular motion. Apply an extra layer around the eye area, forehead, and around the lips where wrinkles are more prominent. For best results, use twice daily: after washing your face in the morning, and prior to a good night’s sleep.

Follow these steps at least once (no more than twice) a week and you’ll see a noticeable difference in your complexion.
